Non-stop rain all day, as every day in this English ‘summer’. I fell in a puddle on my way to the liquor store and got there covered in mud. What is the point of going on if life is just a matter of drinking and collapsing?

I know I shouldn’t get so drunk all the time, but there’s nothing else to do in this village

This morning I finished off the last drops of the fruit brandy. It looks as if I will have to leave the house today and go to the store to get the jar refilled.

How relieved the techers must feel! No more harassment, threats, intimidation.

Oh, one solution to boredom — go back to school!

Injury update: cut and badly bruised left leg, two badly bruised knees, possible broken right wrist and back issues. The joys of bowling!

Used RoundUp on the garden, and had the hedge sprayed for aphids.

Tidying up the garden took less time than I had imagined. Tomorrow (if it seems likely there will be no rain) I will spray weedkiller over the shingle, to discourage more weeds from breaking through.

I will tell you one thing — I’m not intending to buy any more soap dishes. All that stress is bad for me.

Meanwhile polystyrene seems an adequate substitute for the roller blind that collapsed. Oh, the glass soap dish in the bathroom fell and shattered — it was screwed just into plasterwork and came loose. Why do they allow these things to happen?

The patio doors now open normally. Tomorrow morning I will tidy up the garden, unless it is raining.
